Study of jurassic geology beneath HS2

Today we want to share with you an interesting project that is directly related to what we do in SAALG Geomechanics. As the article below states, HS2 (High Speed Two) Ltd, with University of Bath and the Royal Academy of Engineering as partners, will study the geology beneath the first phase of their HS2 railway between the West Midlands and London. Through this study they will be able to apply new engineering solutions that will allow cutting down carbon footprint.

Construction industry is a very pollutive industry and accounts for 36% of global final energy use and 39% of energy-related carbon dioxide emissions. The industry is also very averse to changes and very conservative, mainly because a failure in its design or implementation could end in loss of lives, or huge financial & reputational losses.

That is why we are happy to see that HS2 is setting up an industry role model and is laying the foundations for an improvement in this direction.

On our part we will keep on encouraging the industry on stepping forward for a sustainable construction.
